An abundance has been written in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But can the web adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an established game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban across England and Wales.

No more will players be able to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not deserted this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
